The Real Cheeseburger, Budapest – review

I went to Budapest last week, so naturally I was really keen to try some traditional cuisine… but then I saw The Real Cheeseburger van tucked discreetly at the back of Karavan Street Food and Beer Garden.

Buns filled with breaded cheese of your choice (choose from camambert, cheddar, trappist, smoked or emmental) and inventive topping and sauce combinations to compliment each one.

I opted for the red cheddar with red onion marmalade, crispy onion, steak sauce and rocket, which was, I feel, the best choice.

I also had a bite of my friend’s camambert with grilled aubergine, blueberry jam, rocket and beetroot mayonnaise salad.

So simple, yet the best frickin’ idea ever! When I order a cheeseburger, so often I find myself thinking “really I just want the cheese”.

Please will someone bring this to Cardiff? Preferably Canton and just around the corner for me.

My eat of the week

  • Super Cheddarburger – 1,650 forints (about £4.45)

Cheapest main

  • The Real Cheeseburger – 1,250 forints (about £3.37)

Most expensive main

  • Super Cheddarburger (as above)
