The Bell Inn, Caerleon – review

I’ve been to The Bell a couple of times for Sunday dinner and I’ve always been impressed, so we decided to try out its regular lunch menu.

I chose a runny scotch egg (because why wouldn’t you?) to start and salmon and cod fish cakes for my main. I must have had a craving for fried breadcrumbs that day.

I’m not normally a fan of chocolate desserts, but, as it was a particularly miserable day outside and I have known The Bell to do particularly good desserts (seriously, the cheesecake is to die for), I gave it a go. Hot and gooey little blocks of rich chocolate brownie with creamy white chocolate panna cotta. I told you it does good desserts.

Lovely country pub serving lush food – and dogs are welcome in the bar!

My eat of the week

  • Two courses for £11.95 (lunch time)
  • The Bell’s famous warm and golden scotch egg with chef’s own brown sauce – £6.45
  • Salmon & cod fish cakes with chef’s chilli jam – £9.50
  • Chocolate hot pot with chocolate brownie – £5.85
